The Papa John's 10 Miler is known for its fast, rolling course and the winding hill in Iroquois Park. Elite athletes and amateurs alike annually target the race for its potential to generate personal and national records. It is a perfect prep race for the Kentucky Derby Marathon and MiniMarathon!
The 10 Miler course begins at Third Street, near Central Avenue and historical Churchill Downs. The first three miles are fairly flat. The winding course continues down Southern Parkway and through the hill inside the Park. The rich history of Iroquois Park takes the runners on a winding route around the open space amphitheater, passing the newly restored playground and fountain, while enjoying overlooks of the city. The course travels back Southern Parkway to Third Street, then crosses Central avenue overpass.
This year, for the first time in the history of the Papa John’s 10 Miler, runners will finish inside Cardinal Stadium on the field at the 40 Yard Line.
Family and friends can experience all the excitement as runners cross the finish line at Cardinal Stadium. Runners will then enjoy all the post-race festivities, including piping hot Papa John's pizza, Heine Brothers Coffee, fruit and energy bars from ValuMarket, and much more.
For the safety of all race participants, runners and walkers will line up at the starting line according to their anticipated pace per mile. Runners must line up next to the marker that indicate their anticipated pace per mile (i.e., "8 minute mile," "8:30 minute mile," etc.) Walkers will line up behind the runners. Remember, the race offers EnMotive's disposable tag; your time is clocked according to when you cross the starting mat, not when you hear the starter pistol.
The minimum pace for the Papa John's 10 Miler is an 18 minute pace per mile.
